  Dentures

If teeth are missing, we can replace them with a (partial) denture. Another word for a denture is a removable prosthesis. If possible, we leave some of the patient's own roots in the jaw under a denture in order to preserve the bone.

Getting used to a new denture takes time. For some it is quicker than for others. There may also be pressure points, which do not go away by themselves. Your dentist can reduce the pressure on these areas by adjusting the denture.

If you have had the denture for a while, it often loosens a little. It is then possible to have a new layer made in the denture, a so-called relining. We take an impression in the practice and the dental laboratory applies the new coating. This takes one working day.

Just like your own teeth, your dentures also need to be cleaned regularly, otherwise food residue and plaque will remain. Clean your dentures with a brush and soap. Toothpaste rubs off too much and can cause scratches. We also recommend that you massage your gums, tongue and palate daily with a brush and toothpaste.

Even if you have a full denture, it is highly advisable to go for a check-up at least once a year. During the check-up, the denture is checked to see if it is still fitting properly and the health of the mucosa and gum is examined.

If a full denture does not work well, an implant-based denture may be a good solution. In this case, screws are inserted into the jaw onto which the prosthesis is clicked. Whether this is possible depends on various factors, including the existing bone strength, the position of the jaw and the condition of the gums.
