Bleaching
The color of teeth is hereditary, but can change due to diet and age, among other things. Teeth can be made a few shades lighter by bleaching. The result of bleaching depends on the cause of the discoloration. Your dentist can advise you on this. After a few years, the teeth usually return to their original color. Drinking a lot of coffee and wine or smoking accelerate this process. Fillings or crowns do not bleach out. After bleaching, they can be replaced with a lighter-colored material if necessary.
Bleaching can lead to increased tooth sensitivity or painful gums. The degree of sensitivity varies from person to person.
We work with a power bleaching method in the practice or a home bleaching method. With home bleaching, an impression is taken of your teeth. On this basis, the dental technician produces a transparent plastic tray. This is taken home together with the appropriate bleaching gel and clear instructions. The tray with the whitening gel is worn for several hours a day for several days.
If a tooth is severely discolored after root canal treatment, it can be bleached from the inside. After removing the existing filling, a highly concentrated bleaching agent is included. If the desired result is achieved after a week or a month, a new permanent filling is inserted.
