Crowns and bridges
If there is little tooth structure left due to large fillings or decay, the tooth can be strengthened with a crown. If a tooth is missing, it can be replaced with a bridge.
Crown
A crown is placed over the tooth like a cap and rests on the root of the tooth. Crowns can also be placed on an artificial root (implant). This replaces a lost tooth.
Bridge
A bridge consists of at least two pillars (roots or implants) and one or more bridges (floating parts). In this way, lost teeth are replaced.
A special type of bridge is the fiberglass bridge. With a fiberglass bridge, a connection is created between the teeth using an adhesive technique and fiberglass. A tooth replacement (the floating part) made of plastic is then produced around the glass fiber. It can be made directly in the mouth or prepared in the laboratory. However, a fiberglass bridge is only a semi-permanent solution. It is much less stable and often has long-term problems with retention.
